  72. This package contains the CONTACT PLUS (R) PERSONAL FOR WINDOWS SYSTEM by
  73. CONTACT PLUS CORPORATION. This document contains only a brief description
  74. along with instructions for its installation.  Detailed documentation is
  75. included in the package, but it is in archived form, and is more easily
  76. read after installation.

  78. If you've been trying to keep track of your clients using a conventional
  79. phone book, rolodex or other simple name and address book program then
  80. Contact Plus Personal for Windows is for you.  Contact Plus Personal
  81. helps you keep your contacts organized into multiple databases.  You may
  82. have a personal database of your softball team, a database of interested
  83. clients for your business, a database of the members of the choir and
  84. want to keep all of this information in one standard place.

  86. Contact Plus for Windows provides an intuitive easy to use way of keep
  87. track of your contacts, letters to each contact, notes, phone calls,
  88. meetings, to-dos, etc.

  90. You can directly send e-mail to your contacts with full history of the
  91. e-mail.  Or you can do a mass mailing via e-mail.  E-mail requires a MAPI
  92. compliant serve such as MicroSoft Exchange.

  97. Contact Plus for Windows comes with several on-line coaches making it
  98. easy to start learning the system right away.

  100. A complete history of all contacts such as letters, phone calls,
  101. meetings is stored perpetually for each contact.  Never forget an
  102. appointment as alarms can be set in advance of your meetings.  Drag and
  103. drop capability on the calendars make scheduling a breeze.

  105. Contact Plus Personal for Windows is a shareware program.  This
  106. evaluation version includes all features of the program, and is not
  107. crippled in any way.  You may use it for up to 30 days without charge. If
  108. you like the program, and wish to continue its use after this evaluation
  109. period, you are required to pay for the program. Any fee you may have
  110. paid to others (disk vendors, dealers, etc.) to obtain this evaluation
  111. version was a fee for their copying and distribution services, rather
  112. than a payment for continued use of the program.

  130. ===== Installation =====================================
  131.  
  132. The installation procedure for Contact Plus Personal for Windows
  133. is quite simple.  The package includes a program, "SETUP.EXE", which
  134. automates the entire process.  You will need about 7 megabytes of
  135. available disk space on the hard drive on which you plan to install
  136. Contact Plus for Windows.
  137.  
  138. The exact steps you need to take will depend on how you received
  139. Contact Plus Personal for Windows.
  140.  
  141. INSTALLING FROM DISKETTES
  142.  
  143. To install from diskette(s), you need to perform the following steps.
  144.  
  145.    o  Place the distribution diskette "Disk 1" in the
  146.       appropriate diskette drive.
  147.  
  148.    o  Execute the "SETUP.EXE" program on the distribution diskette.
  149.       For example, if the distribution diskette is on drive A: from
  150.       Program Manager run the command: "A:SETUP".
  151.  
  152.    o  Follow the instructions presented by the installation program.
  153.       You will have a chance to approve installation before any changes
  154.       are actually made to the contents of your hard drive.  The
  155.       program will ask you for a destination directory, and will copy
  156.       the files to that directory.  If you received the product
  157.       on more than one diskette, you will need to insert subsequent
  158.       diskettes when asked to do so.

  161. INSTALLING FROM A HARD DRIVE
  162.  
  163. If you downloaded Contact Plus Personal for Windows from a BBS (or
  164. received it in the form of archive files from some other source), you
  165. will need to perform the following steps.
  166.  
  167.    o  Extract the contents of the archive file(s) in a temporary
  168.       directory on your hard drive.  The procedure for doing this
  169.       varies, depending on the form in which you received the package.
  170.       In all likelihood, the fact that you are reading this text means
  171.       that you already have the necessary tools and knowledge to
  172.       perform this step.  If not, you should be able to obtain
  173.       directions for this from the same source from which you received
  174.       the package.
  175.  
  176.    o  Execute the "SETUP.EXE" program which you have extracted.  For
  177.       example, if the temporary directory into which you have extracted
  178.       the <product> package is C:\TEMPDIR, you would execute the
  179.       command, "c:\tempdir\SETUP".
  180.  
  181.    o  Follow the instructions presented by the installation program.
  182.       You will have a chance to approve installation before any changes
  183.       are actually made to the contents of your hard drive.  The
  184.       program will ask you for a destination directory, and will copy
  185.       the product files to that directory.  If you so direct it, the
  186.       installation program will install executable programs and
  187.       documentation in other directories of your choice.

  189. When you're satisfied that the installation was successful, you should
  190. delete the temporary directory FROM which you installed the product
  191. (C:\TEMPDIR, in the above discussion), including all its contents.

  194. DATABASE ENGINE INSTALLATION
  195.  
  196. Contact Plus for Windows uses the Borland Database Engine.  This is a
  197. powerful database engine that can be used by other applications.  It
  198. should be installed in your C: drive as Borland recommends.  The
  199. database engine consumes about 3.5 Megabytes and will by default be
  200. installed in an C:\IDAPI directory.
  201.  
  202. The database engine is automatically installed when SETUP is run.  Do
  203. not delete the database engine since it is necessary to run Contact Plus
  204. Personal successfully.
  205.  
  206. UNINSTALLATION
  207.  
  208. An uninstallation program is included which will clean up all files and
  209. restore your system back to its original state before installation.
  210.  
  211. The uninstallation program will also uninstall the Borland Database
  212. Engine.
  213.  
  214. If you are running Windows '95 then you can instead uninstall Contact
  215. Plus Personal for Windows using the Add/Remove Programs available under
  216. the Control Panel Group.

  218. YOU'RE READY TO GO

  220. Once you've complete the installation, you should consult the help files
  221. and coaches which have been installed.

  223. If you decide that Contact Plus Personal is not for you there is an
  224. automatic uninstall procedure which will remove all installed files
  225. restoring your system to it's state before the install.
